CLUTCH CITY MAG EXCLUSIVE: INTERVIEW WITH DIAMOND

E-mail Print PDF

"I come in the club shaking my dreads, thowing dese bows and bustin dese heads" kicks off one of the most memorable verses in Hip Hop... And at the time it came from the lips of a 14 year old girl. As one of the most lyrically praised members of Atlanta based group Crime Mob, Diamond is QUICKLY becoming one of the most respected female lyricists as a solo artist. When I read earlier this year that she'd decided to part ways from the group, it made nothing but sense to me. Almost immediately she began dropping music. The blogs were set ABLAZE by her rendition of Rick Ross' BMF (Blowing Money Fast) and henceforth setting in motion the Hurricane that is Diamond of ATL.

HIT DAT HOE by Nicoy F

Sunday (Nov. 14) Diamond held a listening mixer for her newest effort in Houston at Keys and Ink Studios for mixtape "Cocaine Waitress" and WHOOAAA! With single "Lotta Money" and the "Hit Dat Hoe" she will solidify herself as the queen of Crunk. We were able to do an email interview with this young lady before she left, peep.

How old were u when you joined crime mob and where are you guys from?

When crime mob inked our deal i was 14, and we're Atlanta natives

Who brought you guys to the for front?

it was a collaborative effect between several entities, but when we broke thru to the mainstream it was thanks largely in part to Lil Jon & Scrappy.

Why did you part ways from the group?

We were just at a crossroad, and I had to do what was best for Diamond. It was nothing personal, just a business decision.

How did you and Scrappy meet?

I met Scrappy when he was working with Crime Mob, so it was in a professional setting. Over time, through the ups and downs we just maintained contact.

What's the most important thing you want to accomplish as an artist?

As an artist my largest accomplishments will be sharing my thoughts with the world, and being remembered. Whenever I decide to quit rapping, I want my voice to be missed.

How did you link up with Dorrough for the remix to Get Big?

Dorrough is my brother, we have the same management team and publicist.  So when they were doing the line up for the remix he naturally considered me, and to earn my spot all I had to do is deliver.

Are you working on any solid projects, album or mixtape?

I have just completed my latest mixtape Cocaine Waitress, the follow up to Bitch Muzik Vol 3. I'm still fine tuning my album, I want it to be all that my fans wished for.

Through any and everything a woman goes through, they have no choice but to survive. I won't dive into any of her trials and tribulations if that's what you seek go to Media Takeout or something. But I will say this, Diamond is strength... She is a mother and a professional. RESPECT her grind......
